Back to Spring Clean Ōtautahi

There are two ways to clear out this spring.

Both of them count towards the city total. One takes about four minutes of your time. The other one is the way you have always done it.

Let someone else handle it.

A verified local reseller does the work and sells your clutter for you.

1

Scan it. Book it. Gone.

Photos, pickup time, done. Everything is logged as it leaves your door.

2

You have a payout waiting.

It sold. Here is your 60%, and here are your two options.

Keep the money.

Cash for stuff you were not using. How good.

Give it away.

Take what you need, and we give the rest to charity.

Sell it yourself.

If you want to do it the old fashioned way, we would still love you to get around the campaign.

1

Okay, here we go.

Round up everything you are done with and work out what it is worth.

2

List your items.

Photos, descriptions, prices, on whichever marketplace you like.

3

Manage the listings.

This part sucks, but if you can handle it, go for it.

4

Sell as much as you can.

Meet the buyers, do the handovers, keep the lot.

Add it to the city total, and send some to charity.

Head to the link on the site, put in what you sold it for, and choose how much of it to pass on to a Christchurch cause. Your total joins everyone else's.

What we take, and what we do not.

Good stuff, yes please

Bikes and scooters. Power tools and hand tools. Electronics and audio. Sporting and outdoor gear. Kitchen appliances that still work. Instruments. Fitness equipment. Camping gear. Baby and kids gear in good condition. Hobby and craft gear.

Not this time

Broken or unsafe items. Anything without its essential parts. Mattresses and soft furnishings. Recalled goods. Anything requiring a licence to sell. Rubbish, green waste or building waste. This is not a junk removal service, and you will hear straight away if something is not a fit.

Not every item gets accepted. If a reseller passes on something, you will know why, and you can keep it or try again later in the campaign.

Who handles your things.

Verified locals

Every reseller is identity checked and reviewed. They are independent operators matched to your area, not employees.

You still own it

Ownership stays with you until the item sells. Every collection is logged with photos, so both sides know exactly what was picked up.

Money handled for you

Buyers pay the reseller, and your share is paid out to you. No cash handovers between you and a stranger.

Questions people actually ask.

How long does it take to sell?

Most items go within two weeks. Bikes and tools often go in days. Anything still unsold after six weeks comes back to you or gets donated, your call.

What if it sells for less than the estimate?

The estimate is a guide, never a promise. You get 60% of the real sale price, less any handling fee, and estimates never count on the city tally.

Do I have to be home for pickup?

Yes for the first collection, so you can hand things over and check the logged list together. After that you can arrange a doorstep drop.

Do you collect from Rolleston, Rangiora and the towns around Christchurch?

Yes. We collect across Christchurch and the towns around it: Rolleston, Lincoln, Prebbleton, West Melton, Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Woodend, Pegasus and the Lyttelton harbour bays. Pickups outside the city can take a little longer, because we group them into one run. Further out, in places like Darfield, Leeston, Akaroa or Ashburton, we are not collecting yet. Scan anyway and we will email you when we are.

Does it cost me anything?

No. Scanning, pickup and listing are free. The only deduction is the split on money that actually comes in.

Pick a path and get started.

Start with one thing you have not touched in a year. It takes about four minutes.

The board counts what Christchurch has scanned in to be cleared, at our own valuation until it sells and at the real price once it does, plus sales people have told us about and we have confirmed. The full counting method is published.
