If you are moving house in Christchurch and have furniture, appliances or gear you do not want in the truck, Cluttr sells it for you. Photograph what you want gone, we work out what it is worth, and a vetted local reseller collects it and handles the listing, the messages and the meet-ups. You get paid when it sells.
Why this is such a job
- Every extra item is another thing to wrap, carry, and pay a mover to shift.
- Listing it yourself means photographing, writing, pricing and then answering messages for three weeks you do not have.
- Buyers want to collect at the exact moment you are trying to pack, and half of them do not turn up.
- So most of it ends up moved, stored, or taken to the tip, when it was worth real money.
What we do instead
- 1Photograph the things you do not want to move. A few minutes, one item at a time.
- 2We tell you what each is realistically worth second hand, and flag anything not worth the effort.
- 3Pick a collection time that fits around your move. A reseller comes and takes it away.
- 4They list it, deal with buyers, and you get your share when it sells.
Questions people ask
- How late before moving day can I do this?
- Right up to the last few days. Once a reseller collects, the items are gone and off your list, so selling can carry on long after you have moved and your payouts follow as each thing sells. Earlier is still easier, only because collection is one more thing to fit around packing.
- What if some of it is not worth selling?
- We tell you. Anything that would sell for less than it costs to collect and list is flagged so you can put it aside for the tip or the op shop instead of paying to move it.
- Do I have to be there when it is collected?
- Yes, someone needs to hand the items over and check the list. It takes a few minutes and you get a record of everything that left with the reseller.
- What sort of things sell well when people move?
- Whiteware, beds and mattresses, sofas, dining tables, desks, tools, garden gear and anything electronic. Bulky items in particular, because those are the ones costing you the most to move.
